Recent allozyme analyses by Hoess etal.(1997)
have revealed significant differences between the “subspe
cies” malmivaga and G. ornata ornata, justifying its elevation to species rank. Spclda (1999) points out that G. belvetica was originally regarded as a variety of G. ornata as well, and that G. malmivaga may be closer to G. belvetica than to G. ornata.
