The identity and position of this genus and Xerodesmus have not been clarified. Mniodesmus was treated as a synonym of Platyrhacus sensu lato by Hoffman, 1980. A motivation for this was not given. But as the known platyrhacid fauna of Java does not seem so diversified as to contain two more distinct genera this synonymization may be correct.
